16GB black & white iPad mini sold out

They’re sold out, the 16GB iPad mini that is.  After about a day and a half, Apple’s latest miniaturized iPads are now sold out, with the Apple website stating that the device will be available in 2 weeks if you choose to put in an order now.

The iPad mini isn’t your average 7-incher, actually, it’s not a 7-inch at all.  It’s a 7.9-inch device that (round up and it's really a 'tweener' tablet), and according to Apple’s chief designer Jonathan Ive, it has all the features of a full-sized iPad.

The rumored iPad mini became a reality recently when Apple finally took the lid off and unveiled the mini at an event in San Francisco.  Some analysts speculated that Apple wanted to steal some of the spotlight from Microsoft’s Windows 8 launch, which coincides with the launch of other devices from OEMs that use Windows 8.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, also took a shot at the Microsoft Surface RT tablet by implying that Microsoft was trying to do too much with the Surface, and that the iPad was still the perfect device for consumers.

“You could design a car that flies and floats, but I don’t think it would do all those things very well … I think when people look at the iPad versus competitive offerings, they will continue to want an iPad,” Cook said.  “We try to create a product that people will love for months and years after they’ve purchased it. That’s what iPad Mini is designed to do.”

Despite Apple and Microsoft competing against each other with unveiling dates, both have managed to sell their respective devices quite well.  Both the 16GB iPad mini and the 32GB Surface RT tablet sold out within less than two days.
